Job Description

Job Overview:
As an English Language Development (ELD) Teacher, you will focus on improving English proficiency for preschool and kindergarten students who speak or are regularly exposed to a language other than English. You will integrate early childhood education best practices with language development strategies while fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess, instruct, and track the English language development of preschool and kindergarten students.
Communicate language needs and progress to classroom teachers, administrators, and families.
Develop and adapt curriculum for individual and small-group instruction to meet diverse student needs.
Administer assessments to evaluate student language acquisition and maintain accurate progress records.
Employ engaging, hands-on, and age-appropriate instructional techniques.
Incorporate international-mindedness into daily lessons and activities.
Collaborate with colleagues and participate in planning, staff development, and professional learning communities.
Maintain consistent communication with families regarding program goals, classroom activities, and student progress.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Valid Minnesota teaching license for English as a Second Language.

Preferred:
Experience in early childhood or kindergarten education.
Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Training in Responsive Classroom or similar approaches.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, and using hands to grasp or feel. Vision requirements include close, distance, and focus adjustments. Regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds or more. May involve occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens in a moderately noisy environment. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
