Occupational Therapist (OTR or COTA)
Position Description
Reports to: School Administration Updated 5/2018
I. Job Summary
Facilitates, evaluates and carries out Occupational Therapy treatment plans, for the students of Metro Deaf School who qualify for direct or indirect OT services to obtain their highest levels of achievement and independence in the school environment.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
Assesses students fine motor, visual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, and sensory development for independence and academic access, if an OTR.
Administers occupational therapy procedures and modalities for the purpose of achieving students IEP program objectives and goals.
Translates therapy assessments and data into meaningful educational activities.
Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials from the IEP.
Completes 1:1 treatment, small group sessions and SMART (Stimulating Maturity through Accelerated Readiness Training) large group sessions independently and/or in conjunction with the Physical Therapist.
Collaborates, consults and communicates effectively with teachers, parents and team members.
Works with teachers, paraprofessionals and team members for the purpose of providing guidance and ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
Interprets medical and academic reports for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
Understands stages of child development; developmental delays and medical diagnoses related to current OT treatment interventions; and pertinent policies, regulations and/or laws.
Maintains files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, IEP plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, Professional Learning Community (PLC), IEP meetings and team meetings for staff development, committees and curriculum projects.
Provides direct and indirect occupational therapy services for the purpose of developing students’ independence in the school environment in compliance with established goals and objectives.
Independently problem solves issues and create action plans
Obtain and maintain MN state licensure.

Educates students to reach their full potential academically, emotionally, physically and socially through treatment to increase their skills in the areas of fine and visual motor skills and sensory self-regulation.

Qualifications
BS/Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
American Sign Language skills preferred or willingness to become proficient
Experience with or knowledge of sensory integration, fine motor & visual motor integration,
strategies, and knowledge in field
Experience working in schools or with children preferred
